As autumn arrives, so does the cold and flu season. This is an ideal time to review your vaccination status and refresh it if necessary.
Flu Vaccine – Who Should Get Vaccinated?
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends the annual flu vaccine especially for:
- Individuals aged 60 and older
- Pregnant women
- People with chronic conditions (heart, lung, diabetes)
- Residents of nursing homes
- Medical and nursing staff
Best Time: From October to mid-November, so that your immunity is built up before the peak flu season (December to March).
COVID-19 Booster Shot
STIKO also recommends an annual booster for the COVID-19 vaccine for particularly vulnerable individuals in the autumn. Please talk to us to decide together if a booster is appropriate for you.
Pneumococcal Vaccination
Pneumonia is more common in winter. The pneumococcal vaccine protects against one of the leading causes of this serious illness, especially for those aged 60 and older or with underlying health conditions.
Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
For individuals aged 60 and older, STIKO recommends vaccination against shingles. This condition can be very painful and lead to long-term complications.
