Starting at age 35, individuals with statutory health insurance are entitled to the so-called "Check-up 35" – a comprehensive preventive examination fully covered by health insurance.
What is examined during the Check-up 35?
Medical History and Physical Examination
- Detailed conversation about your medical history
- Physical examination
- Blood pressure and pulse measurement
- Body weight and BMI
Blood Tests
As part of the Check-up 35, the following laboratory values are assessed:
- Blood Sugar (Fasting) – Early detection of diabetes
- Total Cholesterol – Risk factor for cardiovascular diseases
- Creatinine – Kidney function
- From age 35 onwards: Lipid Profile (HDL, LDL, Triglycerides)
Urine Test
Checking for sugar, protein, and blood in the urine.
Skin Cancer Screening
From age 35, every two years: examination of the entire skin surface for suspicious changes.
Why is the Check-up 35 so important?
Many serious conditions – such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or elevated cholesterol levels – often do not cause symptoms for a long time. Regular check-ups allow for early detection before damage occurs to the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, or other organs.
Statistics: About one in three adults in Germany has elevated cholesterol levels – most of them without knowing it.
Who is eligible for the Check-up?
- All individuals with statutory health insurance aged 18 and older (once)
- From age 35: every 3 years
How to Prepare
- Come fasting – do not eat anything for at least 8 hours before the appointment
- Drink only water
- Bring a list of your current medications
- Bring your vaccination record
